Getting started

  1. Open Vocalune. On first launch the Model Manager opens and suggests Kokoro, a small English model of about 340 MB.
  2. Click Download. You can keep using the app while it downloads. A notification tells you when it is ready if Vocalune is in the background.
  3. Go to Studio, type or paste your text, pick a voice on the right and click Speak. You can also press Command-Return.
  4. Your clip is saved to the Library automatically. You can turn this off in Settings, General.

To read a document, click the document button in the Studio toolbar and choose a text, Markdown, RTF, Word (.docx), HTML or PDF file. Scanned PDFs without a text layer cannot be read.

Demo mode

Demo mode lets you try every screen before you download a model. Turn it on with the Demo button in the Model Manager, from the Vocalune menu, or in Settings, Storage. In Demo mode every model is shown as available and speaks with a voice built into macOS, not with the real model. Turn it off the same way to hear the real voices.

Model downloads

Models download from Hugging Face. If that host cannot be reached, Vocalune tries a mirror. Each file is checked after download, and a paused or failed download continues from the files that are already complete.

  • Download fails right away: check your internet connection and that there is enough free disk space. The Model Manager shows the free space at the bottom.
  • Download is slow: large models are 2 to 3 GB. You can close the Model Manager and keep working while it runs.
  • Remove a model: open the Model Manager, select the model, click the more button on its version and choose Delete.

Memory and speed

Every model has a version that runs on a Mac with 8 GB of memory. The HQ and 8-bit versions need 16 GB. The Model Manager shows how much memory each version uses while speaking and marks versions that are too large for your Mac.

If speech is slow, try a smaller version, close other large apps, or use Kokoro or Pocket TTS, which are the fastest models. The first clip after you switch models takes a little longer while the model loads.

Playback and export

  • No sound: check the Mac's output device and volume. Option-Space plays and pauses the current clip.
  • A word sounds wrong: with Pro, add it in Pronunciation and write it the way it sounds.
  • Export: with Pro, use the export button in the Studio player or Export in the Library. You can choose WAV, M4A (AAC) or AIFF.
  • Long texts: the free plan reads up to 2,000 characters at a time. Vocalune offers to read the first part, or you can upgrade to Pro for any length.

Voice cloning

Voice cloning needs Pro and a voice cloning model (Qwen3-TTS Voice Cloning or VoxCPM2). Record or import about ten seconds of clear speech with little background noise. Adding the transcript of the recording makes the result closer.

Only clone your own voice or a voice you have clear permission to use. The microphone is used only while you record a sample, and the recording is saved only on your Mac. You can delete a cloned voice at any time in Voices.

Purchases and Pro

Vocalune Pro is available as a monthly subscription, a yearly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase. All three unlock the same features.

  • Restore Purchases: use Help, Restore Purchases, the Restore Purchases link in the Pro window, or Settings, About.
  • Cancel a subscription: open the App Store app, click your name, then Account Settings, and manage subscriptions there. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period to avoid the next charge.
  • Refunds: refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Your data

Everything Vocalune creates is stored in its private folder on your Mac. To remove data:

  • Recordings: Settings, Storage, Delete All Recordings, or delete single clips in the Library.
  • Statistics: Settings, Storage, Reset Statistics.
  • Models: delete them in the Model Manager.
  • Cloned voices, voice mixes and pronunciations: delete them in Voices and Pronunciation.

Deleting the app removes all of its data. See the privacy policy for details.
