Daz Studio on Mac in 2026
Daz Studio does run on Apple silicon Macs, with some catches. Here is the current state, and what else is out there.
Coming to the Mac App Store in November or December 2026. Free, with an optional Pro upgrade.
Email me when it is outAs of October 2026, Daz Studio runs on Apple silicon through Rosetta emulation, and a native build is still pending. Iray renders on the CPU, because Macs have no Nvidia GPU. Rosetta is on its way out of macOS, so Mac users on Daz forums are watching for a native version. If you want native 3D scenes on a Mac, NovelStage, Blender and Poser are the alternatives, each with trade-offs.
Where Daz Studio stands on a Mac
- Daz Studio is an Intel app on a Mac. Forum posts in the Daz community describe Apple silicon as supported through Rosetta, with native support pending.
- Iray, the main renderer, uses Nvidia GPUs. Apple silicon has none, so it falls back to the CPU, through Rosetta.
- macOS 27 shows a warning for apps with Intel parts. Apple has said most of Rosetta goes away with macOS 28.
- Daz users expect Daz Studio 6 to run natively, but there was no firm date when this page was written.
None of this means Daz Studio is broken on a Mac. Users report that it works, and if you have a big library of Daz content, staying may well be right. It is just worth knowing before you put money into it. Check Daz's own pages too, since this may change.
Alternatives on a Mac
| App | Good at | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| NovelStage | Apple silicon rendering, people touching and sitting, everything included | Fewer outfits and hairstyles, no store, no nudity, realistic adults only, Mac only |
| Blender | Almost anything in 3D, free, native on Apple silicon | Long to learn, and people need add-ons or your own work |
| Poser | Long history, runs on Mac | Its 13.3 update was announced as likely the last for Mac |
| Character Creator | High-end characters for game engines | Windows only |
Daz still has what none of these do: a huge store of characters, outfits and props, built up over many years. If you need a very specific costume or a fantasy creature, NovelStage does not have it, and your Daz assets will not open in it.
Daz Studio and NovelStage, side by side
| Item | Daz Studio on Apple silicon | NovelStage |
|---|---|---|
| How it runs | Through Rosetta | Native, made for Apple silicon |
| Rendering | Iray on the CPU | Path tracing on the GPU through Metal |
| Clothes, rooms, objects | Some free, most from the store | Over 60 outfits and 5,000 objects included |
| Sitting and touching | By hand, with morphs and tweaks | Fitted to each body and seat |
| Content range | Very large | Much smaller, no fantasy or sci-fi costume range |
| Scripts | None | Reads Ren'Py scripts |

Render times on a Mac
Iray on the CPU through Rosetta is the slow road for a Mac, but I have no fair side-by-side test of the two apps, so I won't quote one. Here is a real number for NovelStage: this office at 3840 × 2160 took 32 seconds on an M5 Max. It will take longer on an M1, and your scene will differ, so time something you know on your own Mac.

Questions
Does Daz Studio run on M1, M2, M3 or M4 Macs?
Yes, through Rosetta. It is an Intel app on the Mac, so it does not run natively on these chips, and Iray renders on the CPU.
Will Daz Studio stop working on macOS 28?
Apple plans to remove most of Rosetta with macOS 28, and macOS 27 warns about apps like this. Whether it affects Daz Studio depends on when a native version arrives, so check with Daz.
Can NovelStage open Daz characters or content?
No, not as Daz content. With Pro you can import .glb and .gltf models as objects, but Daz figures, morphs and outfits do not carry over.
Does NovelStage have a content store?
No. Everything comes with the app, and there is nothing to buy per item. The range is smaller as a result.
